Dead Or Alive 2 for Ps2 is a very rocking PS2 launch title.  First game I owned and I think it was very well done for even modern fighting games.  I believe this fighting game is for any gamer out there, not just the fighting game genre fanatics.  This was a major improvement over the previous DOA and probably set the bar for the future DOA games.  I've seen about every DOA out there and I really don't see the point in buying the others (if you have this one already that is).

Best thing about this game that I could probably sell to any gamers out there is the wide range of players who can easily pick this up.  If you really don't care and are a button masher, this game will work for you!  Easy combos are present to allow those with less ambition to learn the move list to kick anus.  Also, for those veterans who do, the game offers some more difficult formulae of button mashing to administer your favorite moves.  Also, one thing I know will be golden for key members reading this is the COUNTER system in the game.  I once had to deal with an annoying friend who button mashed the sh!t out of me and stole my 5-streak victory on him.  No typical moves could overcome the button mashing!  That's what counter is good for, worse enemy of button mashers, and if correctly done, can score you an easy victory over those of button mashing expertise.

The fighting styles in this game are mostly unique between ever character, and nicely done and realistic to the fighting style; you will probably recognize a few of the martial arts present.  However, for fun, they comlpetely exaggerate the ability of the human body which adds to some fun for a video game.  No hadoukens or anything like that, but some matrix like impossibilities.

The game presents multiple modes of play including story, tag, team, survival, etc.  Which is good for a fighting game but the ante is up for the success of fighting games and most of this genre now include these.  But I do have to mention my personal favorite aspect of this game is the Tag-team play.  Either by yourself, or teamed up with another player, you can have tag battles with two characters in play.  Unlike other tag battles where you simply swap, this game adds a really awesome feature.  A simple forward, forward, grab input will swap turns with your characters, but not before doing an abso-fuggin-lutely amazing tag team attack.  Based on which characters you pick, you could do an impressive or painful attack, or a play throw and punch.  Every character combo will at least grab the opponent, throw them backwards (like at a rope in wrestling) and the partner will injure the opponent with their personal attack.  You do this by a simple Back+Grab; however, if your character combo does not have a unique attack together, and you attempt the double (forward forward grab), you will simply execute the back throw one.  Regardless, there are tons of possibilities between the 14 characters and it is very fun to do.  One weekend I had a friend stay over and we cross-matrixed the characters to see all of the unique moves hehe.

This is easiliy a 4-player party game to throw in for a while.  2v2 tag battle all the way!  You can also play it on your own to unlock two hidden characters and costumes for all of them.  Costumes are good because they add quite a big variety to characters as some have up to 9 different costumes!  Plus, have you ever heard the commercial line 'She kicks high'?  It came from the DOA lineage (think it was xbox version 3 DOA) because of the questionable exposing costumes that some of the females wear.  If this crisps your waffle, you might like how a quartet of female ninjas fight eachother with enough cotton white underwear shots that make you think you're watching an anime!  Face it, you can't escape it in a video game with girls in it.

Graphics: 10/10
Really nothing to complain about here. Good detail on characters, animations on their clothing (like in the wind and while moving), good scenery (better on 1v1; you get more stages to choose from), beautiful weather effects like the blizzard stage, absolutely amazing environment interaction (throw enemies through windows, off a cliff, break through a fence and fall a level down a fortress, etc). I just can't think of a thing to mark it on.  Oo, you can record your fights for replay on your memory card!

Sound: 8/10
Pretty good here.  Sounds work well, music is pretty limited as it sounds alike (all rock), nothing to buy a soundtrack for (if they have one).  And oh my god...the english voices...are GOOD (for once).  Character's voices match really well and no one sounds like a bumbeling idiot.  Just in case though, you CAN switch the voices over to japenese, for laughs I guess.

Gameplay: 8/10
Great! For a fighting game!  It's hard to make a fighting game worth it's money and enjoyable for a long time.  But I end up popping this baby in every now and then when friends are over.  Good job on a release title!  Still impressed on how well it works for any level of player.

Overall: 9/10
Great fighting game overall, not too much to improve on for it's era and definitely worth quite a few plays.  Force your friends to play this game! Pop it in for a few rounds when hanging out, much fun party goodness.
